5 Questions to Ask When Choosing New Activities for Kids

September 01, 20244 min read

Navigating the array of activities available for your child can be quite a challenge. Hi, I’m Carrie L. Smith, owner of Little Leaps Early Childhood Dance! As a seasoned dance educator, I understand the dilemma of finding the right activity fit for your child and family. It's often difficult to know which questions to ask and what factors to consider when exploring new and unfamiliar activities. Here are 5 questions every parent should ask when looking for activities.

What steps do you take to keep children safe?

Ensuring your child's safety and health is always a top priority. All youth activities should take steps to hire and train great adults to lead the children in their care. Look for activities that background check all employees and volunteers and ask if the staff is CPR and First Aid trained.

At Little Leaps, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students. All our teachers are CPR and First Aid trained and undergo thorough background checks. They are provided with comprehensive training and resources to create healthy and safe dance environments. We share a commitment to safety, ensuring that both beginning and advanced students can learn in a secure and nurturing environment.

What happens if my child doesn’t like it?

Trying a new activity can be scary for children and adults alike! It’s important to know what options are available to help find the best class and choice for your child.

At Little Leaps, we understand the importance of finding the right fit. That's why we allow children to try a class for FREE before they sign up! We also offer a 100% Risk-Free Guarantee. If for any reason you're not satisfied within the first 30 days, simply let us know, and we will issue you a refund of your tuition. We want you and your child to love the Little Leaps experience as much as we do.

What is included in the pricing?

Checking out activities is like comparing apples and oranges. Everyone offers something a little different. Some activities include all the pricing upfront, and others add in extras throughout the season. There is no right or wrong way to do this, but it's important to know what you are comparing when looking at the options.

Financial transparency is important to us at Little Leaps. We list all our fees upfront and offer various installment plans, allowing you to choose the option that works best for your family. Whether you prefer to pay by class or buy a class package, we make sure it's convenient for you. We also individualize the information you receive and send out regular emails and reminders to keep you informed and engaged in your child's dance journey.

What kind of training does your staff have?

Many youth activities and sports are unregulated. There are no set standards or qualifications to teach or coach. It is up to the organization to decide how to train and develop their team.

At Little Leaps, we believe in the power of education. We regularly meet with our teachers and provide ongoing training to better serve our community. Our teachers are trained in various techniques and curriculums, including the Intellidance Method® and More Than Just Great Dancing®. This ensures that our staff is well-equipped to provide a high-quality dance education that meets industry standards and best practices.

What sets you apart from other activities?

There are a variety of activities to choose from, each offering its own unique culture, values, and vibe! It is important to find a place that shares the values and goals of your family.

At Little Leaps, we focus on more than just teaching dance steps. Our programs are designed to support early childhood development by combining exploration and discovery with dance and music. We emphasize the critical connection between music, movement, and development in children during their early years of life. Our family-focused programs inspire creativity, foster self-confidence, and support the growth of the whole child.

We offer a nurturing environment where children can explore various dance styles, from creative movement to ballet, tap, jazz, and musical theater. Our goal is to create a positive and inclusive community where every child feels valued and empowered to express themselves through dance.

Testimonials

"Joining little leaps with Miss Carrie has been the best experience for my daughter. Each class I get to see her personality and confidence grow. The classes are so engaging for the little ones and parents. They are always full of energy, dancing and laughter (along with the occasional high pitch screams). It’s an amazing way to get yourself and your little one moving while seeing them develop and learn before your eyes through music and play. We love Miss Carrie and you will too!"

"As a former elementary educator turned stay-at-home mom, I couldn’t be more impressed with our experience at Little Leaps. Miss Carrie welcomed us by name the first time we met her and has made us feel like a special part of the Little Leaps community ever since! Her dance classes are perfect for my busy toddler (and even her baby sister). I am constantly amazed at the skills my daughter picks up after each class, such as listening and following directions, moving with coordination, and confidently expressing herself. I love connecting with other mothers and caregivers and seeing my daughter build relationships with her peers. My daughter asks to go to “dance class” almost daily and it has become the highlight of our week!"
